SEMICON Japan 2025

December 15 – 19, 2025: The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) Japan office participated in SEMICON Japan. SEMICON Japan, is a prestigious international exhibition dedicated to the electronics manufacturing supply chain, was held at Tokyo Big Site. The exhibition covered a wide range of topics, including manufacturing technologies, equipment, and materials in the semiconductor industry, as well as SMART applications such as cars and IoT devices. Over 1,200 companies and organizations showcased their booths, providing a comprehensive overview of the entire semiconductor manufacturing process.
On December 15th, the VEDP Japan office co-sponsored a reception at the U.S. Ambassador’s Residence. Over 100 prominent Japanese companies in the semiconductor industry were invited to attend an evening to kick off SEMICON Japan week. The evening commenced with opening remarks by Aaron D. Snipe, Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy of Japan.

The reception brought together nine leading U.S. states in the semiconductor industry to network and discuss the latest industry trends, technological advancements, and the expanding business opportunities between the United States and Japan. Masai Satoru, the Director of VEDP Japan, shared some insights into Virginia’s semiconductor industry and invited attendees to visit the U.S. booth at SEMICON Japan to learn more about Virginia.
From December 17th to 19th, Virginia’s Japan office co-sponsored a booth alongside eight other prominent U.S. states to promote the U.S. Semiconductor Ecosystem. During the three-day event, the Virginia team engaged in meetings with various companies, some of which had active expansion plans in the U.S., while others sought information.

Virginia co-sponsored a seminar session titled “U.S. Semiconductor Landscape, Innovations, and Opportunities,” featuring experts from various U.S. semiconductor companies and nine U.S. states. The session’s highlight was a presentation by Hirofumi Wataya, Executive Manager at SanDisk, titled “SanDisk’s Global Strategy and U.S.–Japan Collaboration in the Semiconductor Ecosystem.”

Over 100 attendees attended the seminar. Masai Satoru provided introduction to Virginia’s key assets within the semiconductor industry, including Micron Technologies’ IDM facility and Tokyo Electron’s service center. Virginia also highlighted workforce initiatives from the Virginia Alliance of Semiconductor Technology (VAST), a coalition of Virginia’s leading universities. VAST offers Fast-Track to Semiconductor Career certification programs, expand research and development, and provide cleanroom lab access across universities. Semicon Japan 2026 is planned for December 9 – 11, 2026 and the Virginia Japan team looks forward to participating in another top-notch show, but until then…
