　May 2-6, 2026: Virginia Economic Development Partnership Japan office attended the SelectUSA Summit held near Washington D.C. The SelectUSA Investment Summit is the premier platform for international companies exploring expansion into the United States. Organized by the U.S. Department of Commerce, this event brought together more than 5,500 attendees from more than 100 countries and 55 states and territories, to facilitate business investment by connecting thousands of investors, companies, economic development organizations (EDOs), and industry experts.

 

　Many attendees may have arrived at the Summit via Washington Dulles International Airport located in Virginia.

 

　VEDP’s Director of Japan, Masai Satoru and our FDI Advisor Ms. Michaela Martin met with over 20 Japanese companies to promote Virginia as an ideal location for US expansion by discussing topics related to geographic location, logistics and infrastructure, key industry assets, and workforce initiatives. Meetings with Japanese companies ranged startup to established companies in the life science and energy solutions to software and technology industries.

　During the 4-day event, Virginia’s leadership was present during the event; Governor Abigail Spanberger was present at the Virginia booth and held meetings with Japanese companies to discuss key projects and future expansions. Top leadership from VEDP was a steady presence at the Virginia Booth to meet with delegations from several countries as well as JETRO and several companies to discuss key assets across the Commonwealth to support Japanese investment. VEDP’s CEO and President, Jason El Koubi participated in a panel discussion on U.S. talent the efforts of attracting, engaging, and retaining a stable workforce.

 

　VEDP’s Japan team was honored to attend a reception held at the Residence of the Ambassador of Japan, the Honorable Yamada Shigeo and attend the JETRO reception. The team also extended their time to attend the Australian and New Zealand Delegation event and Enterprise Singapore reception. The VEDP Japan office can assist companies from these markets understand the strengths and assets available within Virginia.
