May 11-14, 2025 – Earlier this year, the Virginia Economic Development Partnership Japan Office run by Fenetre Partners had the privilege to participate in the SelectUSA Investment Summit 2025, the premier platform for international companies exploring expansion into the United States. Organized by the U.S. Department of Commerce, this event brought together more than 5,500 attendees from more than 100 countries and 54 states and territories, to facilitate business investment by connecting thousands of investors, companies, economic development organizations (EDOs), and industry experts. Many attendees may have arrived at the Summit via Washington Dulles International Airport located in Virginia, we hope all had enjoyed your layover in Virginia and plan to return for an extended visit.
Our Director of Japan, Masai Satoru and our FDI Advisor Ms. Michaela Martin met with over 35 Japanese companies to promote Virginia as an ideal location for US expansion by discussing topics related to geographic location, logistics and infrastructure, key industry assets, workforce initiatives, and our support to Japanese Investors. Meetings with Japanese companies ranged from Life Science and Fintech to Advanced Materials and Energy Solutions.
During the 3-day event, our Japan team was honored to attend a reception held at the Residence of the Ambassador of Japan, the Honorable Yamada Shigeo. Virginia’s leadership was present during the event, Governor Glenn Youngkin participated in a Governors Panel and held meetings with Japanese companies. Secretary Segura of Commerce and Trade was a steady presence at our Virginia Booth and met with delegations from JETRO and Keidanren.
